City Council’s big money game

Council campaigns used to be small money affairs, with the incumbent relying mostly on ward and community support.  No more. These days, council members spending millions in campaign cash, even though most of them face only token opposition.

The healing city

Reality Check: Philadelphia’s new land bank law.

After much storm and fury, Philadelphia now has a land bank bill, whose goal is to quickly turn blighted vacant properties into land for development, community purposes and even side lots playgrounds.  The new land bank will start with the 10,000 vacant properties owned by various city agencies. Reporter Isaiah Thompson talks about what’s next with the new law.
