Life at Benjamin Franklin High School got complicated this year.  Because of a round of school closings, enrollment jumped by more than 250. The tension associated with so much change escalated throughout the fall, with fights in the halls and confusion in the classroom.

Connie Langland discusses the changes at the school and how students learned to cope.

I remember I was eighteen years old standing at a bus stop in an urban Philadelphia neighborhood, coming from God knows where and thanking God to finally be going home. Faces of melancholy and stoic expressions littered the bus stop that day. As I look up from staring at my timberland boots, I see him. Wow, I haven’t seen him in such a long time.
